Building Community Beyond Belief, Exercising Progressive Values, and Defending Separation of Church and State

For our December 7, 2025 movie club, members nominated then voted on their favorite holiday films. Spirited won the vote and Deb & Rob Britt hosted the screening in their home. People brought snacks to share and we ordered pizza.

Spirited (2022) is a musical comedy reimagining of A Christmas Carol in which the Ghost of Christmas Present (Will Ferrell) selects a new “perp” each year to redeem, only to find himself challenged by Clint Briggs (Ryan Reynolds), a charismatic but morally slippery media consultant who may be beyond saving. As Present attempts to guide Clint through the usual ghostly lessons, Clint turns the tables, prompting Present to confront his own unresolved past and question the entire redemption system. Filled with big musical numbers, sharp humor, and an unexpectedly earnest heart, the film explores whether people—and even ghosts—can truly change.
