SHL volunteers were back at Park Circle Cares on September 19, 2026 for our monthly service activity, joining volunteers from across the community to distribute fresh produce, groceries, and other necessities to local families.
The food truck from the Lowcountry Food Bank had a new driver who had some trouble finding us, so we got a late start, but once things got going, it was great fun! Together, volunteers served 132 families representing at least 461 people. In addition to food distribution, period packs were available as part of our continued partnership with Lowcountry Period Pixies, and a volunteer who had completed Charleston County’s Voter Ambassador training was on hand to help community members register to vote.
We had at least 10 volunteers from SHL, including several newcomers. It was good to see both familiar faces and new volunteers pitching in alongside our community partners.
Park Circle Cares is one of SHL’s regular service commitments, and we return each month on the 3rd Saturday of the month to help with the distribution. It’s a practical expression of humanist values: people working together to meet real needs and make our community a little stronger.
