In solidarity with the Remove the Regime rally in Washington, D.C., SHL board member Bonnie Cleaveland organized a protest march in downtown Charleston on Saturday, November 22, 2025. Bonnie boldly pushed back against the city’s restrictive first amendment ordinance to secure a permit to march in the city center. There was an incredible turnout with hundreds of Lowcountry residents showing up to resist the regime.
Bonnie’s call to protest declared, “The Trump regime has trampled our rights, torn families apart, and let people go hungry. Enough. We refuse to be silent while our freedoms are crushed and our neighbors live in
fear.”
Bonnie’s work organizing this march also creates a template for future actions. She created a new organizing site, https://charlestonprotest.org
The march was widely covered in local media, including on ABC News Channel 4, Live 5 News, and on Channel 2.
