Building Community Beyond Belief, Exercising Progressive Values, and Defending Separation of Church and State

We raised $962 for our Q2 2025 Charity of the Quarter, the Alliance for Full Acceptance, South Carolina (AFFASC). Their mission is to achieve, nurture, and defend equality and full acceptance for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) people. They work to dispel the myths and half-truths that divide us—about identity, love, freedom, and worth—and to promote authenticity and pride.

Founded in 1998—when being LGBTQIA+ in Charleston often meant living hidden or excluded—AFFASC was created by a group of committed lesbian and gay citizens determined to build a better future. They believed that equality and acceptance strengthen the entire community, and that marginalization harms us all. Their work continues to shape a more just and welcoming South Carolina.

AFFASC envisions a South Carolina where LGBTQIA+ individuals enjoy equal rights and thrive in a safe, free, and inclusive environment. They empower communities through advocacy, education, and meaningful engagement. They work to build partnerships with municipal and civic leaders, legislators, medical and mental health care providers, policy makers and business leaders to advocate for awareness, protections and equality for the LGBTQIA+ community.

Education and advocacy go hand-in-hand. AFFASC raises awareness about LGBTQIA+ identity and the issues affecting our community.  They conduct training and educational programming, meet with organizational leaders and teams, and help organizations conduct diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) audits of their own policies and programs, specific to LGBTQIA+ identity, which has become increasingly urgent with the regime’s determination to eliminate all efforts to promote and improve DEI.
