Humanist Hangouts

Humanist Hangouts are an important part of building a strong, connected secular community. While SHL is committed to education, activism, and service, we also believe it is important to create spaces where secular humanists can simply relax, socialize, and enjoy one another’s company. Throughout the year, we host a variety of regular monthly gatherings and special social events designed to help people make friends, strengthen relationships, and foster a greater sense of community. Whether joining us for dinner, trivia, crafts, karaoke, brunch, or other casual outings, Humanist Hangouts provide welcoming opportunities to connect with fellow humanists in a fun and informal setting.

Happy Humanist Hour (Dinner Club)

Join your Humanist friends on the second Tuesday of each month for Happy Humanist Hour, where we will share a meal, drinks, and good company.

The next Happy Hour will be on Tuesday, September 8th at 7 pm at Taco Boy Downtown.

Whether you knit, paint, scrapbook, crochet, or just like making things, join us for crafty fun and community.

Our next Craft and Chat Group will be at 5:30 pm on Monday, September 14th at the Keith Summey Library in North Charleston.

Join us for a casual social gathering for secular humanists to relax, connect, and enjoy good conversation.

Pub Trivia Night

Calling all Trivia buffs! If you enjoy a fun night out pitting your random knowledge against others, join your humanist friends on the 4th Wednesday of the month at Mex 1 Costal Cantina, located at 817 Saint Andrews Blvd in West Ashley at 6:30 pm for Trivia Night.

The next Trivia Night will be on September 23rd.

5th Sunday Brunch

We brunch any time there are 5 Sundays in a month. Join us to relax, connect, and enjoy good food and conversation.

Karaoke Night

Sing, snack, and sip with fellow humanists — no talent required, just fun! Our next Karaoke event will be at 1 pm on Sunday, September 20th at Keith and Terri’s house.

Trivia Night at Mex 1

We had an 8-person team for trivia on Tuesday, November 25, 2025 at Mex 1 Coastal Cantina in West Ashley. We were doing well, but bet big on the final question and blew it 🤷. We still had a ton of fun!

Freethinkers take first at pub trivia

The Freethinkers trivia team was again victorious, tying for first place at the pub trivia competition at LG’s by the Creek in Hanahan on Wednesday, October 29th. A big shout-out to James for being our ringer, without whom we would not have done nearly so well.
