Despite the cold weather, we once again exceeded the 24-person limit on the number of protestors allowed under Charleston’s unconstitutional 1st Amendment ordinance, so had to break up into multiple, independent protests, for our monthly Activist Sunday Pop-Up Protest on February 8, 2026. Midway through the event we added music and amped up the party. Check out the video below!
SHL continues its support for Silence Is Not An Option(SINO) and their monthly pop-up protests. The city enforces a restrictive and unconstitutional First Amendment ordinance requiring a permit for any protest involving more than 24 participants. In practice, this rule is used to limit dissent by granting permits only for remote locations such as Hampton Park—well away from Charleston’s busy tourist areas. To challenge this infringement on the right to assemble, SINO organizes multiple smaller demonstrations across the city. SHL is proud to host one of these gatherings monthly near City Hall on Broad Street.
