Come see the epic period drama The Brutalist with your humanist friends! We are going to the 2:00 showing at Citadel Mall Stadium 16 Theater on Sunday, February 2, 2025.
The Brutalist (2024), directed by Brady Corbet, follows Hungarian-Jewish architect László Tóth (Adrien Brody) as he emigrates to the United States after surviving the Holocaust. Trained at the Bauhaus, Tóth struggles to establish his architectural career in post-war America, grappling with the tension between his artistic vision and the commercial demands of his clients. His life takes a pivotal turn when he encounters wealthy industrialist Harrison Van Buren (Guy Pearce), whose patronage offers both opportunities and challenges. The film delves into themes of artistic integrity, the immigrant experience, and the pursuit of the American Dream, all set against the backdrop of mid-20th-century architectural evolution. Felicity Jones co-stars as Tóth’s wife, Erzsébet, adding depth to this epic narrative. [Synopsis from https://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/the-brutalist-film-review-2024]
