At SHL we continue to look for opportunities to serve the community. On a Saturday morning in May a small group of SHL members, Diane Burns, Diane Laubengayer, Madeylne Adams, Charles Richardson and Tucker Lentz, joined a larger group of volunteers at the Lowcountry Food Bank. The job for the day was sorting sweet potatoes from large bins into smaller boxes for transport and distribution. After we finished the work, we were given a tour of the very impressive facilities of the food bank and learned about the wide range of services they perform–and other opportunities for future volunteer service projects. We had a good time working side by side with a church group. On the tour one of their members did a bit of a double take after she asked about our group and learned that we were non-believers out doing good works. We are proud to represent our community, demonstrating our commitment to service and that you can be good without god.
