|Next Week: The Story Behind the Story|
The following e-mail announcement was sent by Matt Dean to the Monthly Meeting Reminders mailing list:
SHL's first meeting of the fall is right around the corner, one week from today, September 11th.
Our speaker is Margaret Downey, past board member of the American Humanist Association (AHA), The Humanist Institute and the Thomas Paine National Historical Association.
Margaret's speech “The Story Behind the Story” will highlight her journey from being baptized Catholic to becoming an outspoken and proud leader in the nontheist community. Her presentation is a continuation of the essay “My ‘Bye Bull’ Story” which was originally published in 50 Voices of Disbelief: Why We Are Atheists. She is a current board member of the Freedom From Religion Foundation, Scouting For All, the Godless Americans Political Action Committee, Advisory Board Member of the Robert Green Ingersoll Museum, and the Atheist Alliance International (AAI). With these connections Margaret can keep her finger on the pulse of the atheist community. She has become a proud atheist spokesperson and media representative.
If you'd like to read Margaret's essay “My ‘Bye Bull’ Story,” you can view it or download it here:
As always, the meeting will run from 4 pm to 5:30 pm, and we'll go out to dinner afterward.
Hope to see you there!
P.S. Because of a scheduling conflict, our refreshments for next week's meeting have fallen through. If you'd be willing to provide refreshments, please reply to this message.
