The following e-mail announcement was sent by John Childs to the Book Group mailing list:
We had a great time discussing THE MEANING OF HUMAN EXISTENCE with Yvonne as our facilitator. As usual the discussion was very engaging with sixteen at the general meeting and eleven going out to eat afterwards at the The Red Orchid at the North Bridge Shopping center. Nice place.
We voted for The Bonobo and the Athiest by Frans De Waal for the month of March. It looks to be a fascinating read. Sharon S. will be facilitating. Here is a short description from the Amazon book purchase site. “In this lively and illuminating discussion of his landmark research, esteemed primatologist Frans de Waal argues that human morality is not imposed from above but instead comes from within. Moral behavior does not begin and end with religion but is in fact a product of evolution. For many years, de Waal has observed chimpanzees soothe distressed neighbors and bonobos share their food. Now he delivers fascinating fresh evidence for the seeds of ethical behavior in primate societies that further cements the case for the biological origins of human fairness….…”
As usual we will gather at the Barnes and Noble on Sam Rittenberg Blvd. on 3/22/15. That is as usual the fourth Sunday of the month at 4:00 PM in the afternoon. When we break at 5:30 we will go out to eat at a nearby establishment so bring your restaurant preferences with you. Keep in mind it should be a restaurant that can seat a group of from 12 to 18 people.
