Reminder: Sunday Quest this Sunday, 10/20

The following e-mail announcement was sent by Amy Monsky to the Family Friendly Activities mailing list:

Our October Sunday Quest will be Halloween themed. Kids will learn about the history of Halloween, and how religion(s) and culture has shaped and reshaped the popular holiday so many of us love today. In addition to a fun craft activity, kids will go on a scavenger hunt of the UU cemetery, learning about religious views of death and the afterlife through the artistic symbolism on the grave stones which we will compare with humanistic views of death and the (lack of) afterlife. As always, kids will learn about a world religion and a famous freethinker.

When: Sunday, 10/20 at 4pm

Where: Gage Hall, 4 Archdale Street

Cost: Free

For Whom: Children ages 5-12 years olds

RSVP required:

Sunday Quest, our new humanist youth program, will provide our children an opportunity to learn about humanism and all of its life-affirming ideals. Modeled after the Harvard Humanist Learning Lab and other secular Sunday schools, our goal with Sunday Quest is to create a safe space for children to explore their developing worldviews, think for themselves, connect with their community, and build a strong ethical foundation.

Scheduled during our third-Sunday monthly speaker presentation at Gage Hall, Sunday Quest will be geared toward children ages 5-12 years old. We request that parents drop their children off and attend the adult SHL meeting during the children's program. If space allows, children older than 12 years old may attend as program assistants and children younger than 5 years old may attend with a parent. The program will last approximately an hour to an hour and a half.
