|Chalreston Rally for Marriage Equality|
The following e-mail announcement was sent by Amy Monsky to the SHL News and Updates mailing list:
Next week is Marriage Equality Week as the Supreme Court will consider two cases about the freedom to marry. These two cases – which concern the discriminatory Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and California’s Proposition 8 – are fundamentally about whether gay and lesbian Americans can enjoy the same freedoms and opportunities as everyone else. In a show of support for marriage equality for everyone, rallies and vigils will be held at 150 locations across the country in all 50 states, including 3 rallies in South Carolina.
SHL is proud to be a co-sponsor with AFFA, Charleston Rally for Marriage Equality, and many other organizations for Charleston's rally.
6:00 PM on Monday, March 25, 2013 on the steps of the U.S. Custom House at East Bay and Market Streets in downtown Charleston.
The event is free and open to the public. All LGBT people and allies who believe in equality and justice are encouraged to attend. An exciting lineup of speakers will be published (please visit www.affa-sc.org for more details). Wear red to symbolize the love and commitment that comes with marriage equality!
