SHL Meeting on 11/18 - In Search of Gentle Death

The following e-mail announcement was sent by Amy Monsky to the Monthly Meeting Reminders mailing list:

Richard "Dick" Côté, this month's featured speaker, will address a difficult but unavoidable topic. Death is inevitable. But bad deaths - those accompanied by unnecessarily prolonged pain and suffering, often aggravated by immensely costly and frequently futile medical treatments - can be avoided. Drawing on five years of intensive primary source research and more than one hundred in-depth interviews with death-with-dignity pioneers, activists, physicians, nurses, hospice workers, and their patients on four continents, Dick will discuss the modern history of the death-with-dignity movement and introduce the basic and necessary things one needs to know to maintain control over the quality of your life and preserve your free will and dignity until life’s unavoidable end.

When: Sunday, November 18 at 4pm

Where: Gage Hall, 4 Archdale Street

Cost: Free, with refreshments served

We will also be accepting monetary donations for our charity of the quarter, Begin with Books. As always, we will be going to dinner at a nearby restaurant after the meeting.

We hope to see you there!
