SHL Potluck This Weekend

The following e-mail announcement was sent by Alex Kasman to the Monthly Meeting Reminders mailing list:

----------------------------

THIS SUNDAY, July 22nd, our summer potluck will be held at the Mt. Pleasant home of a member. (Address and driving directions are being e-mailed to our mailing list but will not be posted here.)

Jerry DeWitt will be our special guest. Jerry became a non-believer after more than twenty-five years of Pentecostal ministry in his home state of Louisiana. During his dilemma with doubt Jerry ultimately held the senior pastorate of two very unique congregations, one a charismatic dominionist and the other non-denominational fundamentalist. He also holds the distinction of being the first graduate of The Clergy Project, a private, invitation-only “safe house” community of current and former ministers who no longer hold the supernatural beliefs of their religious traditions. As a former minister, Jerry brings a broad understanding of the religious lifestyle and its effects on personal well-being to the non-theist movement.

Jerry will speak briefly about his own experience letting go of faith, as well as on the purpose and far reaching goals of the Recovering From Religion program.

The potluck begins at 5 pm. Jerry's talk will begin at 6 pm.

We don't pre-coordinate the food as it always seems to work out pretty well. Bring a main dish, a side, a dessert, whatever strikes your fancy.

The potlucks are always lively and fun, with great food and better conversation. We would like to extend a special invitation to people on our mailing list who rarely come to meetings, as well as past speakers who are not members.

Feel free to reply to this e-mail with any questions you may have.

Hoping you're having a great summer and looking forward to seeing you on Sunday,

Alex (SHL Webmaster)
