|Myrtle Beach Humanists and Freethingkers monthly meeting|
The May monthly meeting of the Myrtle Beach Humanists and Freethinkers will be held on Sunday, May 2nd at 5 pm at the Chapin Library in downtown Myrtle Beach. The group will meet for dinner afterwards at a local restaurant.
This month's guest speaker is Dr. Reid Johnson of Pawley's Island, SC. Dr. Johnson's presentation will be entitled, "Dimensions of Non-Belief: Who We Are, How We Think, What We Join, and Why". The presentation will include a free flowing discussion encouraging member input.

Since 1998, Dr. Johnson has been an active member of the professional secular community at the local, state, and national levels.He founded the Skeptical Humanists at the Grand Strand (SHAGS) ASHS group, worked with fellow humanists in his state to start the South Carolina Secular Humanist Alliance (SCSHA), and was Program Director for the First Annual SCSHA Statewide Conference in 2000.As CfII Dean he has designed and directed the Institute,s Regional Seminars and worked on education-related plans for the CFI.Since January 1, 2001 Dr. Johnson has also served as Director of Educational Services for the IHS, where he is designing and developing the Continuum of Humanistic Education (COHE) distance education program, a major new initiative to put a wide range of authoritative, engaging, individualized, and very inexpensive humanistic education courses on the Internet. (The COHE is scheduled to debut in the summer of 2001.) He has also been an avid supporter of the student freethought movement since its inception.
