NYT Magazine: "How Christian were the Founders?"

This article motivated by a current debate around history textbooks in Texas (which unfortunately sets the standards for the nation) contains a few remarks that are likely to offend extremists on either side of the issue of religion and government in the US. But, it seems to have a lot of useful information. At least according to my reading, though it emphasizes the idea of properly acknowledging the role of religion in American history, it correctly identifies as hogwash much of what the Texas Christians claim to be examples of it, and definitely seems to support the idea of a secular government in general.
