Christianist Group's Billboard Compares Atheism To Murder

By Nicole Belle Tuesday Jun 02, 2009 3:00pm

A group calling themselves "Answers in Genesis" recently took out a billboard in Texas depicting a young boy holding a gun.

Here’s how Answers in Genesis describes themselves:

An apologetics (i.e., Christianity-defending) ministry, dedicated to enabling Christians to defend their faith and to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ effectively…we also desire to train others to develop a biblical worldview, and seek to expose the bankruptcy of evolutionary ideas, and its bedfellow, a “millions of years old” earth (and even older universe).

[..]Personally, I can’t believe they are implying that non-believers, or to whom God “doesn’t matter,” are going to take a gun and shoot someone in the face.

Striking yes; thoughtful, absolutely not.

Although supposedly their beef is with evolution, I don’t see how that point is conveyed with this picture. So, according to them, believing what Darwin had to say means a person is lawless and will go on a killing rampage?

They were so enamored of this image, they used it in a TV ad as well:

Given the rising violence we're seeing lately, I hope that Answers in Genesis remove the ad and rethink the campaign altogether, before someone interprets it as a way to prove their faith.

Anyone else find this a bit threatening?

The hypocrisy of these fanatics--these homicidal zealots--is just astounding. Religion is the source of ethics. No religion means no ethics. No ethics means homicidal sociopathy. Therefore, we must exterminate the god-free before they murder us. God is great! Peace be with you! Rat-tat-tat-tat-tat.

I can't remember where I was reading it, but the proportion of atheists in the US is supposed to rise dramatically in the next couple generations--approaching European proportions. Optimistically, that will set us down a road the more freedom from persecution by the religious. Pessimistically, it will just marginalize the fanatics and make them even more fanatical.

Re: Christianist Group's Billboard Compares Atheism To Murder

I am being dragged into court soon by one other such criminal who shouts "abortion is murder" and dozens of other lies at the top of his lungs every Saturday morning and forcing his 9 year old daughter to do the same at the top of her lungs.

I have been targeted at my place of employment with handbills, repeated incidents inside my store and denied promotions all over the climate of tolerance for religious terrorists who hate Atheists for telling the truth about them.

Such fanatics are no different than the KKK in their white hoods burning crosses. Showing falsely labeled photos of early mid term fetuses CALLED 3RD trimester is exactly the kind of outrageous lies that got DR Tiller killed 12 days ago.

The F.A.C.E. law and R.I.C.O. law IS NOT BEING ENFORCED. Blocking entrances to clinics, vandalizing clinic property is exactly what the killer did less than 24 hours before he drove from the clinic in Kansas City to terrorize a Lutheran Church & shoot DR Tiller inside. DR Tiller performed life saving abortions. He removed dead or dying fetuses CERTIFIED BY TWO OTHER DOCTORS UNDER KANSAS LAW FROM women who could have suffered more complications with a rotting tiny corpse inside their wombs. But the news media does not tell you such compassionate yet gruesome details. Just the lie of "late term abortion" and the incitements to murder by Randall Terry or Bill O'Reilly who called a heroic doctor: "Tiller The Baby Killer" on national television.

A billboard is just a symptom. The appeal to violence & glorifying the use of deadly weapons by children or adults is the problem inseparable from religious fraud wrongfully "protected" as free speech.

The KKK has been shamed away from any respectability by decent people over the last 60 years.

Now with the internet, we can shame away these fanatic zealots for zygotes in a few years by speaking out, not merely retreating in silence or smug complaints. Violent religious speech is what caused 9/11. Whether Jehovah, Allah, Buddah or Krishna, no violence in the name of any religion can be excused away. No religious criminal has the right to scream at a woman s/he does not know and call her, her health care provider or companions "murderers." We need full enforcement of current laws & create buffer zones moving them back away from safe private medical facilities.
