California's same-sex marriage ruling

I think it's really interesting how little we've been hearing from the usual religious/conservative crowd about the recent California Supreme Court ruling allowing same-sex marriages.

Their two big rallying cries on this topic in the past have been that judges are "legislating from the bench" and for "state's rights" to do things like ban same-sex marriages.

But, both of those would sound hypocritical in this instance.

The actual legislature in California twice passed laws legalizing same-sex marriage, and the Governator vetoed them saying that it was for the court to decide. Now, you can't accuse them of "legislating from the bench" after that!

And it is clear that if some states can ban same-sex marriages by claiming "state's rights" then certainly California can allow them, too!
