The local chapter of Americans United for Separation of Church and State is excited to be bringing a national figure in the church-state separation movement to Charleston. The Rev. Dr. C. Welton Gaddy, president of The Interfaith Alliance, is a Baptist minister from Louisiana who is passionate about keeping religion and government separate. The Interfaith Alliance (TIA) is a nonpartisan, grassroots organization dedicated to challenging those who manipulate religion to promote a narrow, divisive agenda. With more than 185,000 members drawn from more than 75 faith traditions and 47 local activist groups throughout America, TIA promotes compassion, civility and mutual respect for human dignity in our increasingly diverse society.
* What: A talk by Dr. Welton Gaddy on the separation of church and state, including Q & A, followed by a reception with light refreshments.
* When: April 14, 2008 at 7:00 p.m.
* Where: John Wesley United Methodist Church at 626 Savannah Hwy. Reception in the Family Life Center.
* Cost: This event will be free and open to the public.
